Medical Marijuana and Chron's Disease

What is Chron’s Disease?

Crohn's disease (CD) is the chronic inflammation of the digestive tract which can lead to abdominal cramping and pain, severe diarrhea, fatigue, malnutrition and weight loss. This condition can affect any portion of the digestive tract, but it most commonly affects the small intestine and proximal colon.

More than half a million people in the United States have Crohn's disease and incidence rates have increased over time. Crohn's disease is more likely to develop in people between the ages of 20 and 29, people who have family members with IBS, and/or people who smoke cigarettes.

How does Medical Marijuana help?

The endocannabinoid system is connected to the management of inflammation in the body. THC, CBD, and several terpenes have anti-inflammatory benefits. Consuming cannabis will provide pain relief, encourage appetite, and calm nausea.
