Cannabis SPRING/SUMMER Storage

As the weather continues to change, we have to remember that our medical marijuana can feel the effects as well. Excessive light, high temperatures, and moisture can degrade the composition of your medicine. Degraded cannabis will have a weaker flavor, aroma, and you may even find that the effects are weaker or not what you were going for when you initially purchased the strain. Incorrect storage can cause THC to convert to cannabinol or CBN much faster than regular aging. CBN is great if you want sleep and relaxation, but not if you bought the strain because it was sativa. All available forms of consumption require different storage conditions to minimize any degradation, but they all follow the same guideline – store in a dark, cool place.

DRY LEAF-- store in room temperature as storing it in the cold can cause the trichomes to fall off and storing in the heat can dry it out. Unless you are making hash never store your cannabis in less than 40 degrees Fahrenheit or more than 77 degrees Fahrenheit.

Humidity packs are a great way to maintain the moisture in your dry leaf. Several growers such as Terrapin and Cresco currently provide humidity packets in your dry leaf. You can reuse those packets to hydrate your dry leaf from other growers. They dry out before you can use them or humidity packets are out of the budget, a spinach leaf is an easy way to bring moisture back into your flower. Unlike a lemon or orange peel, a spinach leaf will not leave any flavor or aroma behind! But to not hydrate your dry leaf for too long because that can lead to mold.

Unfortunately, transferring your dry leaf out of the container it comes in is a technical violation of ACT 16, but glass is more ideal that plastic for storage. Plastic containers can cause the dry leaf to sweat out its moisture and lose trichomes from the static. Some growers have switched to dark glass jars, which helps to extend the life of your dry leaf by preventing oxidization. If you are keeping your dry leaf in clear jars, such as mason jars, be sure to store them in a dark, cool place.

CONCENTRATES -- Do not expose your concentrates to air as it will dry out your medicine. Do not leave your concentrates in the heat or any warm area such as your car because they will change composition. Your crumble or wax will become a badder/budder and your shatter will be a pull n snap if stored incorrectly. Concentrates can be stored in room temperature or in a refrigerator.

CARTRIDGES + DISPOSABLE PENS – Store your pens upright in room temperature to keep the oil from thickening. Storing upright will prevent clogging and leaking.

We hope these tips allow you to get the most out of your medicine this spring, summer, and year around. Proper storage is important no matter the season :)
